Cue up the X-Files music because we're going to Roswell, New Mexico!
I hope everyone had a happy and fun memorial day weekend! This was SUPPOSED to post on last Friday but for whatever reason my site decided to just take the day off. Oh well. I am excited to finally share with you guys my stop in Roswell!
I am not ashamed to say I believe in the potential for non-Earth based life in the universe... just not little green men haha. It's kind of a big space (pun not intended) to just have one tiny TINY speck of life, but that's a discussion a little too existential and metaphysical for just a quick blog post! I digress. If you don't know already my favorite genres of film are East Asian horror, aliens/space, sci-fi/magic. I enjoy a good jump scare as well as a great backstory or mythology so I just had to visit the American holy grail of UFO mythology that is Roswell.
I went in HOPING for tacky over the top hokey goofy stuff and I got it! I know a lot of people visit Roswell because they truly believe in the mystery and legend of it, but for me I was more in the mindset of it being like alien Disneyland. I only had a few hours to spend in Roswell because of how long it actually took to get there from my campground (6 hours round trip) so I wanted to for sure hit the main attraction: the UFO Museum. It did not disappoint. The walls were lined with articles about the UFO crash and the government interventions. There were rows and rows of evidence and ufo photos, plenty of replicas, and OF COURSE fake animatronic aliens and space ship. It was amazingly tacky and I cannot recommend you visit it enough.
The town of Roswell however is quite the opposite, it's like any other small town in America. I'm from the pacific northwest so I compare it like going to the beach. Every beach town is quirky in its own little way and EVERYTHING sells some kind of starfish, whale, and sea shell themed nicknack. Roswell is no different. Yes, there are a handful of alien-themed shops and restaurants, but for the most part life is the same anywhere else. Which actually made my trip more enjoyable because even though it's a tourist destination it didn't feel uncomfortable or out of place.
