The annual Artsplash was this past weekend, and if you don't know what that is it is the annual multi-medium art show held in Tualatin, Oregon. What I like about this show, other than it being literally five minutes and 27 seconds from my front door, is the area in which it's located. The commons are a beautiful spot with a lovely man-made lake with bright sun and a good breeze.
Last year it rained (in the middle of July mind you) but this year it was hot and sunny, the ice cream was cold, and the people who came were genuinely excited about the show and really appreciated us as artists. It was a fun experience. Each year that I do this show it gets better. Some of us had our 10' x 10' tent booths and some had smaller spaces under a big tent. Foot traffic moved nicely and even though it reached 95 degrees on the last day we still had a good turnout.
This year was special though. This year, to my surprise, my photography work earned me the award “Best in Show.” Quite the honor since there were so many talented artists and some who have been doing this for decades. To me it's more proof that this is what I should be doing. This is what I am supposed to be doing. Further, that doing it my way in a non-traditional sense and style is proving to be not only doable, but successful. To add even MORE icing on the cake almost all of the apparel pieces I brought sold out too! We even had people who signed up to be notified when new pieces came out or got stocked! Exciting!
I will be very honest, the mature part of me wants to bow my head and remain completely humble. BUT there is a very tiny part of me that is so proud of my work that he wants to go running down the stairs yelling “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” at the top of my lungs. Haha. It's the first award of this nature that I have won and it motivates me to continue on my path and pursue the goal of getting better.
Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported the event. It was an absolute pleasure!
See you there next year.
